Although we lived in small towns close to each I did not meet Alex until the early fifties at a Military base in Halifax.. At the time he was enlisting in the Canadian forces, I had enlisted a few years earlier. In later years we both served with Training Support Group iat Base Gagetown. I was privileged to play a role in the presentation of his certificate on his promotion to Sergeant.
Alex loved hockey and together we coached young players in the Oromocto Minor Hockey League.
I was aware of Alex’s recent health issues but my heart was shaken on hearing of his passing. He was a cherished friend, more like a brother and I will miss him dearly.
My family and I extend or deepest sympathy to Millie, all their children and the entire Hillier family. May God bless you and keep you in His care.

My deepest condolences to everyone! Alex was the BEST neighbour and bus driver; he was like an extra grandfather who lived across the street. I’ve been missing them since they moved, and the house just isn’t the same. So many great memories, lots of pics that I’ll be going through next time I’m home. I’m really sad that he’s gone, but I’m so happy he was part of my life. Big hugs and wish I could be there for the celebration of life

Alec lived in our building. He was always smiling and cheerful. We had great conversations in the under ground parking garage. Talks old artillery acquaintances, sports or the weather. At age 88, up to a few months ago, he enjoyed his daily, brisk walks and could sometimes be found with Cooper at Tim Horton’s having coffee. RIP Alec. Condolences to all the family. They did all they could in the name of love.
