Obituary of Phillip Karl Embrett
It is with heavy hearts the family of Phillip Karl Embrett of Burton, NB wish to announce his passing on May 23, 2022 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton at the age of 65. Born in Halifax on September 8, 1956 he was the son of the late Victor and Helen (Anderson) Embrett.
Phil is survived by his wife Cathy Briggs and sisters-in-law Jeanette London, Dawn Briggs and Sherry Briggs-Derry. Phillip was a loving and loyal brother to his four siblings and is survived by his sisters Andrea MacPhee (Edwin) and Glenna Embrett.
He was predeceased by his brother Victor and sister Leslie Hughes (Pat). He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law Joyce Briggs, father-in-law Douglas Briggs and brothers-in-law Harold London and Ron Derry.
Phillip was an uncle and much more to generations of the Embrett family. To Kyle (Emily) and Kevin, he filled a role that will forever be treasured as a father figure. To Shawn and David, he took on the role as an older brother. Phillip always made time to visit all of his nieces and nephews; David, Billy, Gregory, Kyle, Kevin, Jamie, Hailey, Bret, Brandon, Emily, Charlotte, Imogen, Olivia, Harper, Solveigh. He was a loving nephew to his special aunt Gail Banfield (Ken) and her family (Shawna (Jeremy), Zander, Phoenix & River).
Phillip began his military career as a 1st Field Halifax as a Reservist in October 1984 and later transferred to regular force at CFB Gagetown. It was at CFB Gagetown that he met his future wife, Cathy and after being together for 16 years they married in 2016. Phillip later retired from the military in 2016 with 31 plus years' service as an Artillery Sargent.
Phillip grew up a proud Halifax North ender and will be forever linked with his lifetime friends from the Mercer family. Phillip will also be missed by his best friend of 40 years, Dan Williams, and his wife Sheila. Phillip grew up in the city but became an outdoorsman when he moved to Burton and enjoyed taking his lab, Hudson, for 10 km walks every day, fishing and riding his ATV. He was an amazing brother-in-law to Cathy’s sisters, Dawn and Sherry, and was King of the Barbecue on Sundays. He will be missed by fur babies Hudson, Socks, Lucy and Crystal.
To celebrate Phil’s life, a visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Oromocto Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel with an interment to follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery. A reception will take place after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice House Fredericton, or a charity of the donor’s choosing would be appreciated by the family.
