Obituary of Bertha May Johnson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bertha May Johnson on Sunday, August 29th, 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born on March 30th, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Laurie and Mary States and was also the loving wife of the late Carl Kenneth Johnson. Bertha (Birdie) was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always ready to go walking on the trails with her great grandchildren and ready for new adventures, like tobogganing last winter. She loved to talk to her many friends and family members on the phone and always had a story to make them laugh. She was extremely independent, living in her own home and caring for her gardens at 90 years of age. She loved to play Rummoli and was often the person who won. Bertha will be greatly missed by her children Michael Johnson (Cheryl), Cathy Nielsen (Gary), and Sandy Crouse (Gilbert); grandchildren Sean Johnson (Sandra), Colin Johnson, Ben Nielsen (Toby Gelinas), Amanda Sanford (Micheal), Kristina Lowen (Taylor) and Allison Bigg; great grandchildren, Morgan, Emily, Hannah, Andie and Myles, her brothers and sisters and many friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Bertha was predeceased by her son Andrew Johnson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring and wonderful staff at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton and the Extra-Mural Program, Oromocto for the care they extended to our mom during her time at the hospital and at home. A memorial service will take place at Oromocto Funeral Home on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 at 11:00am. Donations in Bertha’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
