Obituary of Phyllis M.F. McInnis

Phyllis M. F. "Girlie" (Groves) McInnis passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 2, 2018, at Poseidon Long Term Care Residence, in Winnipeg, MB. She was the wife of the late Frank E. McInnis (1992) of Riverview, New Brunswick. Girlie was born in Saint John, N.B. on July 15, 1916, the eldest daughter of Frank E. and Ella (Fletcher) Groves of Morna, N.B. and East Saint John. She was a secretary at Hampton High School and at Dr. Leatherbarrow Elementary, retiring in 1974. Girlie is survived by one son, Robert F.M. McInnis (Francoise Cardinal) of Winnipeg; sisters, Jean O’Leary of Riverview and Therese Bennett of Halifax; grandchildren, Carolyn Black (Michael Mackay), Peter Robert, Michael Black, Matthew Corbett, (Kelly) and Duncan McInnis (Kimberly); great grandchildren, Katie, Alex, Sophie and Nicholas Black , Nick Corbett, Emily (Foliot), Sarah and Kayla McInnis; two great-great grandchildren, Hazel and Simon; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughters, Elva "Betty" Black (Claud), Joanella Corbett (Stephen); sister, Marie Murray (Paddy) of Oromocto; and her brothers, Grant, Ivan, Edwin, Roy and Francis "Frank" Groves . She attended Saint Vincent’s Girl’s school, Saint John and Saint John Vocational School in 1933. Girlie met Frank in 1934 and they were married in 1938. Interment will be at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hampton, N.B, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Lung Association or NB Heart and Stroke Foundation.
