Obituary of Evelyn Shirley Turner

It is with sadness that the family of Evelyn Turner announces her passing at Orchard View Long Term Care on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the age of 87. Born in Youngs Cove, NB, on August 23, 1937, she was the wife of the late Malcolm “Mike” Turner.

Evelyn leaves behind her son, David Turner of Jemseg; siblings, Harold Bruce Moss (Roberta), Stanley Clayton Moss (Lois), Marie Duffy, Kenneth Melvin Moss (Donna), Mildred Viola Moss and Doug Elmer Moss (Debbie); sisters-in-law, Pamela Bearresto and Jackie Straight; many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Mike (Malcolm), in 2000; parents, Harold and Olive (Brown) Moss; brothers, Robert, Lorne, Thomas “Tommy” and Donald “Donnie” Moss; brother-in-law, Calvin John Duffy; sisters-in-law, Joan Fanjoy, Jean Maxan and Joyce Todd.

Evelyn lived in Jemseg most of her life. She worked for the Country Kitchen restaurant for several years, but her focus was on home where she and Mike ran a hobby farm and cared for their extended family. They had a strawberry u-pick for decades. She was active in the community, a member of the Jemseg Women’s Institute, a founding auxiliary member for the Jemseg Area Volunteer Fire Department, and many other community events. She hosted many family gatherings at her home on Grand Lake, including reunions and the recent wedding of her god daughter, Ashley.

Evelyn was a wonderful mother who was always there when any family members needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance and of course those amazing homemade deserts, and fresh strawberries. She was a friend to many, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength.

The family wish to acknowledge the care given to Evelyn by Orchard View Nursing Home over the past two years.

There will be no visitation. A private family service will be held from St. James Anglican Church in Lower Jemseg. Everyone is invited to a reception taking place at the Jemseg Lions Club on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 beginning at 4:30 pm. For those who wish, donations in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Jemseg Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
