Obituary of John Joseph Simpson

The family of John Joseph “Joe” Simpson, of Haneytown, New Brunswick, sadly announce he passed away on October 3, 2024, at the Oromocto Public Hospital in Oromocto, New Brunswick.

Joe was born on January 31, 1943, to Edward and Agnes (McCann) Simpson in Enniskillen, New Brunswick.

Joe worked at the Fredericton Government Garage for 34 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, or just walking through the hardwood ridges. In his free time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing and he was an avid fan of racing at Speedway 660. When discussing race results or cars in general, if it wasn’t a Ford, he would think it was not worth talking about. A true Ford man!

He will be sadly missed by his wife Evelyn and his dog, Colby. Joe is also survived by his sister, Madeline Burton; brothers-in-law, John (Kay) Blackier, Peter (Donna) Blackier, and Eugene Leger; sister-in-law, Lynn Simpson, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother, Doug Simpson; sisters, Bernice Cashol and Barara Leger; nephew, Darrell Simpson, and special sister-in-law Florine Johnston.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff and doctors at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital and the Oromocto Public Hospital for the excellent care and kindness they gave to Joe.

A private family interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Oromocto SPCA, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
