Obituary of Juanita Paul

It is with heavy hearts her loved ones announce the passing of Juanita Paul, 84 of Welamukotuk First Nation. Born in Woodstock, NB on Feb 25, 1940 to the late David Solomon and Nancy (nee Polchies) Paul. Juanita started her Spirit Walk on September 17th, 2024 after an amazing life filled with love and laughter.

Left to mourn this tremendous loss are her son, Michael John Smith (Erin) and their children of Welamukotuk First Nation; daughter Sarah Solomon (Peter) of Fredericton NB; siblings Nelson (Liz) Solomon of Bilijk First Nation, Wanda Paul (Stewart Donovan) of Sitansisk First Nation, Sheila Wilcox (Paul) of Lincoln NB, Charles W Paul of Campobello NB, and her Spiritual Godson Dr. Allan Sabattis (Shawn) of Welamukotuk First Nation. Juanita also leaves behind her  son-in-law Brian Michael Solomon; granddaughters Starr Smith, Danielle Smith; great-granddaughters Isabella Solomon, Trinity Sabbattis, Mykah Smith, Mardee Jade, Briana Solomon, Jonnie-Renee Sacobie; great-grandsons Trent Smith, Jonah Smith, Michael John Smith Jr., Oliverr-Alfred Smith, Luke Solomon, Orion Lovely, Colin Lovely; great-great granddaughters Scarlett, Oakleigh, Violet, and one on the way; great-great grandsons Dimitri, Atticus, Emmitt, Riley, Lathan, Zayden, Camryn, and Devon Paul, along with several nieces, nephews and her fur babies Gizmo & SusSus. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles “Charlie” W. Paul; sons Troy Smith, Mike Niski, Wayne Niski and John Niski; daughter Lenora Smith, and siblings Corrine Philineese Solomon, Charlene Solomon and Sharon Bears.

Juanita’s passing will be felt near and far as she traveled and lived in many places in North America. One of her most cherished homes was in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she befriended Ed and Lorraine Warren. Her other was Welamukotuk First Nation where she lived out her final days surrounded by her friends and family.

The family would like to thank Cathy Paul and Andrea Sabattis Foley for the amazing loving care provided to Mom.

The family will receive guests at Oromocto Funeral Home on Friday Sept 20, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, September 23rd, 2024 at 1:00pm at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Callistus Abazie officiating. A feast to follow burial on Monday, September 23, at the Church Hall all are welcome. (Menu does not contain nuts or seafood for those worrying about allergies).

Her sacred fire is lit as we await the arrival of friends and family to mourn her. Guests are welcome to visit her sacred fire at Welamukotuk First Nation Health Centre at 5 Nikia St, Welamukotuk First Nation.

Donations in Juanita's memory can be made to the Hearth & Stroke Foundation, and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
