Obituary of Howard Joseph Arsenault

The children of Howard Joseph Arsenault, of Burton, NB, sadly announce his passing on Monday, August 5, 2024. He was our rock and will remain in our hearts forever and always.

Dad was born on April 27, 1936, and predeceased by his parents Eddie and Eva (Bernard) Arsenault of DeBlois, Prince Edward Island. He left for the mainland as a young man but the island remained his home and where he chose to be laid to rest.

Dad and our mother, Melvina McLellan (Burke) married in 1961 and were later divorced.  He was predeceased by our loving sister Christine in 2022. Still remaining are Mary Lou (Edwin) of Fredericton, Stephen (Tracy) of Toronto and Ron (Mandy) of Rusagonis. Dad had two dear- to-his- heart sons-in-law, Terry Currie of Fredericton and Rick Taylor of Grand Lake.

Dad is lovingly remembered by two sisters Bertha (Melvin) Buote and Ada (Leta) Arsenault. He was predeceased by brothers Ronnie, Raymond, Francis and Bobby.

Our father loved and was proud of his grandchildren Jeremy, Ryan, Douglas, Tylor, Brandon and Laura along with great-grandchildren Shayna, Caelan, Ronan, Serenity, Oliver, Benjamin, Cain and Alora.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In 2005 our dad met a very special lady, Sally (Sarah) Hickey, whom we describe as an earth-angel. She became his best friend and they spent almost 19 years together making memories to last a lifetime. We all treasure her sense of family and her devotion to our father.

Dad was employed by the Town of Oromocto in the Public Works Department from 1960 until his retirement in 2001 after 41 years of service. He made many lifelong friends throughout his career and was respected for his work ethic and loyalty. During his career with the town he also ran his own garbage removal business for several years in Burton.

Dad loved the outdoors and to hop on his four wheeler and head out into the woods to explore nature. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing and vegetable gardening. His annual harvest was shared with family and friends and whatever remained was pickled and preserved with love.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Oromocto, New Brunswick, beginning at 12:00 PM with Fr. Callistus Abazie as celebrant. Interment will take place on Prince Edward Island at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House Fredericton or a charity of the donor’s choice.
