Obituary of Deatra Scheers

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Deatra Dawn Scheers of Maugerville, NB, on Thursday, April 11th, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. She was born in Milltown, NB, on May 2nd, 1948, to the late Donald and Joyce (Stevenson) McInnis.

Deatra is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Arnold Scheers of Maugerville. Also by her children, Andrew Scheers (Rachael) of Maugerville, Michael (Krista) of Woodstock, Paul (Jenny) of Prince William; Her 5 wonderful grandchildren, Kassadi, Moriah, Logan, Jase and Martinus. Siblings, Bill McInnis of Burton, Marilyn Penney (Keith) of Geary and Richard McInnis (Mary) of Oromocto. Sisters-in-law, Tina McGinn (Douglas) of Ottawa, Dini Scholten of Fredericton, and Kathy Rolph of Toronto, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and an infant brother, Larry.

A devoted wife and mother, Deatra raised a family of 3 boys while working side by side with Arnold on the family dairy farm. She also spent many years helping with the Barkers Point School hot lunch program as well as a member of the Maugerville Women’s Institute where she developed a passion and talent for quilt making.

Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto, NB, on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024 from 4 -7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday,  April 17th at 11:00 am. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

A special thank you to Dr. Stackhouse and Dr. Rideout for their care and guidance, as well as the Nurses and staff of 4E and 3E for their kindness and compassion. Lastly, our deepest gratitude to Louise McAleer and Lucy Keenan for their personal care and devotion to our dear mother. Words can not describe the thanks we have for each of you being part of our lives.
