You don't know us, as my spouse Stewart Petrie and I were blessed to be taken on by Dr. Joe in Harvey when we moved here from ON four years ago. However, he had a huge impact on our lives and I cannot let this opportunity go by without sending our condolences to all of the family and letting you know how much we appreciated him. He will be missed, not just for our sake, but for his kind and loving soul. God bless.

Both Ed & I were privileged to work with Joe , me at the hospital in Oromocto, and Ed in his capacity of administrator of Harvey Hospital in the 1970’s & 1980’s. We remember coming to the house and commenting on the goats on his vehicle, only to find them on top of our truck when we went outside. Also, just before we moved to Ontario Joe splinted Ed’s arm with the newest fibreglass cast. The doctors in our new home were amazed that a small hospital in NB had this fantastic, new cast material before they did. We both send sincere condolences to all his family and friends. He will be remembered. Sincerely, Ed & Vi Pomeroy

We were deeply saddened to hear about the sudden loss of Joe. Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. Joe was truly a kind and wonderful person, and his presence will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in peace, and we will find comfort in the cherished memories he shared with us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I fondly remember the many meaningful conversations we had at Joe's farmhouse, where we discussed various issues and shared our thoughts about the world. It's truly difficult to comprehend that he is no longer with us. However, I firmly believe that his presence will continue to inspire us and guide us as we move forward. His wisdom and kindness will always be remembered, and his spirit will live on in our hearts. May we find solace in the memories we shared and honor his legacy by carrying forward the values he embodied.

My condolences to the family on the passing of Dr Joe. He was our family physician for many many years. If it wasn’t for him, I probably would not be here. He diagnosed me with ovarian cancer twice and was so compassionate to me throughout all my treatments.
He will be missed at our Harvey Health Centre, his winning smile greeting you .He gave back to our community so many ways, from playing bagpipes in our parade, to helping unselfishly people in need.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope you find comfort in all of the good memories you have of him. God bless

It is with deep sadness we say goodbye to Dr. Joe MacDougall. He was a man of faith, a man of devotion, a man of integrity, a man of his word, and above all a man of interfaith. He always did what he could to anyone who asked him. He gave so many examples by his charitable actions to many people and communities in NB. He always refused to get any publicity about what he did. He’ll be truly missed. Rest in peace, Dr. Joe. Until we meet again.

Our deepest sympathy to the family on the passing of Dr. Joe. He was such a caring man--to his family, patients and to the community of Harvey. He was a lovely person to be around. He was always there to take care of you even if you were just a drop-in patient. His smile was contagious, and we are certain he will be missed walking in the halls of that Harvey Hospital (today the Harvey Health Centre). He has been around for a long time and saw and worked through many changes. Edward and I were not regular patients of his but if we had a problem, he was willing to see us and help us out. A few years back we helped him put a video together about the community and the new ambulance system which he thought was necessary for the community. And, of course, he would always take part in the parade of the community days festivities, playing his bag pipes. He certainly will be missed by many people in the health field and the community of Harvey. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these sad and difficult times.

To Margie, Joe's siblings and his children,
We are saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Joe MacDougall who was our medical colleague, friend and supporter of many charitable causes including "Our Lady of Grace School ". Joe was a committed, excellent, caring physician for thousands of people over many years in central and southern New Brunswick until his premature death. Joe cared for the most unfortunate for many years with great skill and compassion. Joe was a generous supporter of many charitable causes and not afraid to express his beliefs and his faith. Joe set an example not only for his medical colleagues but also for all of us as to how to serve the broad community. We will all miss and remember him for a life well lived .

To our dearest Margie and the children of Dr. Joe, we just wanted to share a story with you. The very first time that we met Dr Joe he was not only the best doctor with the best bedside manners that we had ever met but also incredibly spiritual and got our physical address from his secretary to share with us 2 articles that he felt would help us with our spiritual and physical health. He was the one to deliver the news that I had been healed from an illness and always took very good care of both of us. He will always be in our hearts and we will miss him dearly. Getting called late at night when I was working in Fredericton to come down to Lincoln to heard cows that got out of the fence and were on the road. Neither of us really knew what we were doing but 2x4 s in hand we did I. We had lots of laughs together and was loved by both myself and Suzanne. I ll never forget the time we went into the revival tent on Prospect street and doesn’t he get picked out of the crowd to come up and confess. Coz he was Dr Joe from emerg.
