Obituary of James William Bogart

It is with great sadness that we, his family, announce the passing of James William Bogart, age 84, which occurred at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB, on Friday, March 8, 2024. He was born in Saint John, NB on June 8, 1939, the son of the late Russell Clinton and the late Mary (Landry) Knight and later a special son to the late Ronald Bogart of McAdam, NB.

He was an outdoorsman at heart from a young age, regardless of the season, and treasured his time spent with lifelong friends at hunting and fishing camps, duck-hunting, salmon fishing, storytelling and enjoying the finest of meals together. His heart truly belonged to Palfrey Lake near McAdam where he spent countless hours fishing for small-mouth bass and sharing his extensive angling knowledge with anyone willing to learn. The lake was his sanctuary, a place where he felt most at peace. It was also the place where he caught the largest Chain Pickerel in New Brunswick, for which he received a certificate from Record Fish Canada.

He enjoyed artifact hunting, particularly for arrowheads along the shore. Decoy carving, woodworking, photography, birdwatching, cooking  and gardening gave Jim’s particularly curious, creative mind outlets. He had a profound interest in local music, history, genealogy, poetry, and art, specifically paintings. He was never without a dutiful, beloved dog or special kitty by his side. In later years, gardening became his favourite outdoor pleasure, and his motivation was to produce the tallest sunflowers and biggest, most delicious vegetables possible. The Carol Chyko paste tomato and the Ailsa Craig onion became his favourite varieties of supersized veggies. 

Jim was driven. He worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia as a young adult, he then obtained a chartered accountant degree designation through correspondence from Queens University. As a Chartered Accountant he worked for JW Bird & Company Limited for a few years before he became the Chief Financial Officer for Wandlyn Inns. After over two decades, Jim retired from Wandlyn Inns, and built his own chartered accounting practice in Gagetown, NB.

Always a gentleman, he is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Bonnie Hamilton Bogart, of Gagetown, NB, son Jason Edward Lance Bogart (Cholpon Nazaralieva Bogart), of Hong Kong, daughter Jennifer (Tyler) of Charlottetown, PE, granddaughters Kayleigh Patricia Erminda Bogart, Halifax, and Veronica Balmoja Bogart, Hong Kong. Also survived by his three sisters Cheryl “Sherry” Bogart, Joy Bogart, and Amy Knight (Michael) of Jemseg, NB, and their families, stepchildren and their families, and several friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have shared their memories and condolences during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
