Obituary of Areta Bernice Davidson

It is with great sadness that the family of Areta Bernice Davidson (née Jarvis) of Geary, NB, announce her passing on February 24, 2024 at the Fredericton Hospice. Areta was born in Red Rock, NB on November 19, 1936 to the late William and Katherine (Pond) Jarvis.

She will be forever missed by her two sons, Greg (Wendy) and Richard (Heather); grandchildren, Spencer Lockhart and Kailey Davidson; her brother Robert (Sheila Eastman); sister in-law Jeanette Jarvis; many nieces and nephews; as well as long-time friend Leila Levison.

In addition to her parents, Areta was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Carl Federick Davidson, her brother Bertrand Jarvis; sisters, Estella Harvey (William), Thelma Murdock (Donald), and Lois Wilson (Dara).

Following graduation from the Fredericton Teachers’ College , Areta moved to her first job in Woodstock, where she met the love of her life. Carl and Areta moved to Oromocto and eventually to Geary, where they raised their two boys.  Areta was active in the Women’s Institute in Geary and her baking won many prizes at the Fredericton Exhibition.  Areta especially enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her garden and travelling the back roads of New Brunswick with Carl. There will be many who will miss her caring heart.

A visitation will take place at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm.  The funeral service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Lyn Hughes officiating. The interment will be held at the Geary French Lake Waterville Cemetery in the spring. Donations in Areta’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Fredericton Hospice, or the donor’s choice.
