Dear Ruth and family, it was with heavy heart that Shelley and I learned of your loss. I always enjoyed Dee’s visits to our Transportation lines, and his support on behalf of the Centurion Club to Shelley on the loss of her father and Dee’s former officer, was always much appreciated. I know that Dee shall regale others with his tales, in the great tank laager above. With warmest regards,
LCol Gord Hagar

Dear Ruth and Family,
Please accept my heart felt condolences on the passing of Derle. We served together in two of his three regiments the Strathcona’s and the RCD. When I walked through the tank lines the soldiers would play a little game from concealed places, “hey Derle here’s Darrell”, they would shout out. A good leader with a great sense of humour and a fine example to the young soldiers.
Rest in peace old soldier.

Dear Ruth and family, Betty and I are saddened to hear of Derle’s passing and offer our deepest condolences. Derle lived a very active and adventurous life and will be greatly missed.
We have fond memories over the years with you and Derle in Oromocto, attending the 8CH Reunions that you both organized, while offering wonderful hospitality to us as guests in your home.
Derle and I met decades earlier in the late 1950’s, shortly after commencing our military service with 8CH and shared a love for sports. I recall Derle along with Vern Matheson setting records in the 100 Yard Dash and then going on to win the Relay Race as teammates at Unit and Regional competitions. In Softball, the three of us were on the Championship team, two years in a row in Werl Germany.
It would be nice to see his contributions honoured through the dedication of a memorial sports award from one of the three armored regiments that Derle served with.

I met Derle when I was in Cadets in Gagetown he was from my home town PlasterRock Tobique Valley. He was doing a dog an pony with a tank at the cadet camp and I got to go for a ride , I was hooked and I enlisted a year later when I was 18 and joined the armour Corp. I subsequently spent 36 years in the Corps and like him I served in the same 3 regiments. I bumped in to him when I was posted to C Sqn in 86 he remembered me and gave me some great advice. Thank you for that Derle it served me well. Rest in peace. My condolences to his family

My brother Derle and I were very close growing up, barely 2 years separating us. We spent our childhood fishing, playing ball and playing music, Derle on the harmonica and I on the guitar.
As we grew older life intervened. Near or far he was always in my heart and on my mind.
My brother, my hero will always be missed and never forgotten.

Ruth and family. Our deep condolences for your loss. I have many fond memories of Dee from the golf course. When I first starting golfing Dee would bring me egg cartons of golf balls. I think he felt sorry for me loosing so many in the woods. Dee always greeted me with a smile and a wave and would listen to my good and bad holes with interest. He will be missed.

Very sorry to hear about your loss Ruth. I always enjoyed coming to the golf course and seeing Dee especially when I had just got back from plaster rock. Having a chat about what I was doing up on the Tobique river would certainly make him smile. I think we both enjoyed the stories about the Tobique as I could see him reliving memories as we chatted.
