Obituary of William Clarence Ramsay

It is with great sadness that the family of William “Bill” Clarence Ramsay announces his death after a short illness on December 14th, 2023.

Bill was, first and foremost, the patriarch of his beloved family. He retired as Captain in the Royal Canadian Artillery, after serving for over 33 years. Once retired, he became a councilman on the Oromocto Town Council where he served under Mayor Faye Tidd for several years. During this period of service, he fought for and secured a new, fully equipped, state-of-the-art firetruck. He loved his community, always seeking ways to improve and better the quality of life for those in need, children and the elderly alike. He paid his dues by sweat, tears, and sometimes a little blood to the local Gagetown Golf Course, although the many times he walked the course, he came home feeling a little less than a Tiger Woods. He did receive notoriety one time for hitting a Hole-in-One, which was forever remembered by an acknowledgement in the Daily Gleaner.

He was a gardener with a green thumb, usually providing vegetables to his local neighbours and family. He always thought of others before himself. You could find him walking, and feeding the birds and chipmunks that often came to his yard.

Bill had a love of music, playing guitar and tickling the ivories every now and then. He had a melodic voice that encouraged all to join him.

Above all, his family meant the most. His arms were always searching for his wife, children, or grandchildren to hug and hold. He physically built a home with his wife, for the family. His work ethic was exceptional – he would work his occupation in the day, come home and tend to his family’s needs afterward, then continue to build the family home. No matter where he was in the world, if he was needed home, he would be on the next flight back.

William is survived by his wife, Beulah; daughters, Karen Cooper (Gary) and Cynthia Ramsay (Brian); son, Donald Ramsay (Cornelia); grandchildren, Nicholas Anthony William, Theresa Leanne, Courtney Alyssa May, Cheryl Rae, Nathan Daniel, and Amber Dawn; step-granddaughter Amanda Tiffany, and great-grandchildren, Brandon, Videlle, Alexis, Dacota, Kendra, Austin, Sierra, Haley, Skylar, Destinee, and Winter. He is also survived by his siblings, Elizabeth, Barbara and George, and several nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his infant son, Johnathan, and his siblings, Eleanor, Eric, Arnold, Jean, Donald, John, Christine, and Roma.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oromocto Funeral Home. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no visitation or reception. A memorial service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 20th, 2023, at 11:00am. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the IWK or a charity of the donor’s choice.
