Obituary of Milford William Howe

The family of Milford William Howe, 90, sadly announces he passed away in Fredericton on October 3rd, 2023 after a period of declining health. He was the eldest son of Hattie (Harrison) and Herbert W. Howe and was born in Geary, NB.

Milford attended the Lauvina School until he left to work in the woods with his father to help support the family. 

In 1956, Milford married Marjorie Good and had a family of four children; Kathy, Terry, Colleen, and Ross.  Milford and Marj celebrated 67 years together on September 15th. 

Milford was a woodsman who enjoyed working in the woods, fishing, hunting and trapping in his younger and middle years. He always kept a garden for potatoes, tomatoes and strawberries. He worked at Base Gagetown for 33 years until retirement. 

He was a regular attender of musical jams in the area including Mazerolle Settlement and Queenstown in the last few years. He was a longtime member of the Fredericton Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Association. 

In addition to his wife, Milford is lovingly remembered by his sons, Terry (Debbie), Ross (Monique); daughter, Colleen (Terry); sister, Meretta (Bob); brothers, Emery, James (Tina), Arthur (Charlene); 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Kathy; brothers, Perley and Mervel; sister, Nellie; half-brother, Orial, and half-sisters Cleta, and Muriel.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff from Extra-Mural and 3SW at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for their care of Milford.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Geary Lion’s Club on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 2-6pm, where all friends and family can gather. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Oromocto SPCA, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
