Although I didn't know Carol well, she was a cherished friend of my sister Shirley Dubois. I had the pleasure of hosting her and Denise in Ottawa when they decided to join Shirl and me for the Blues Festival. I remember her zest for life and her sense of fun and she was a delightful guest. Her greatest legacy is her family and her light will continue to shine brightly in each of you. Thinking of you all at this very sad and difficult time. With sympathy, Linda Wood

I had heard of the famous Carol Ward through friends and colleagues, but finally had the privilege of working with her when she was Literacy Supervisor. She was so sensible, approachable and supportive! Oh yes, and absolutely hilarious! She left her mark in education and in all the lives she touched. Sending love to all her family and friends, as she will be dearly missed by so many.

A beautiful soul! My grade 6 teacher. She had a way of teacher like no other. She was captivating with that smile. Always making learning in class so much fun. I remember specifics from that grade, projects, books, games, Greek mythology (who knew I would come to love this). Anytime I hear/see the words “Carmen Sandiego” I think of her, my classmates will understand. I was one of the few lucky students that spent extra hours with her after school and on weekends. Drama! “A Child in Prison Camp” was the name of the play. I didn’t play on joining but when she pulled me aside to ask if I was trying out and I said no. The look on her face told me that she thought I should. She was very expressive. She gave me the encouragement I needed to try out and I got the lead role. It was difficult for others to understand the play because there was no acting. Only words. I didn’t know at the time but that whole experience was life changing. She saw something in me that I never did. It was the last time to perform for the competition, my last two lines on stage all alone and I run off stage and couldn’t finish. Afterwards she talked to me and said “remember if you forget your lines you can always prompt for them” but what she didn’t know is that I never forgot them, I couldn’t finish because at that moment I was ‘Shizuye Takashima, a child in prison camp’. She knew that I could do, what I thought I was not capable of. I think of this moment often. I’m so appreciative for her.
Thinking of you, Chris.
All my love, thoughts and prayers to the family.

As saddened as I am over Carol’s passing, I smile as I write this note of condolence because of all the funny and uplifting conversations I had with Carol throughout my career. She was a teaching and social spirit with like no other. I will always be grateful for the support she gave my late wife Eileen during her last years of teaching. To Brian, Chris and Shannon, warmest thoughts and condolences during this time. She was one of those, “one of a kind” personalities. Thinking of her and smiling. Rick Demmings

so sad to read the loss of this beautiful lady. I hope reading all these memories will show you what an impact she had on a lot of lives. I too had her at Lower Lincoln elementary. I didnt want to move on to another grade because i wanted to stay with her! I cried so hard and then i found out she was moving up a grade and i got her again, what a relief! I dont know what my mother would have done if she hadnt moved up another grade. Every time we drove by that corner, i would tell my husband thats where Mrs, Ward lives , she was my teacher, and i believe , she still lived there. I am sure i will know a lot of names that leave comments. She was an absolute wonderful teacher, I am sorry for your loss, rest in peace Mrs. Ward, you were one of a kind

I am so sorry for your loss. I had her for Grade 6. She was a wonderful teacher and a very kind person. I was very shy and akward, she was so encouraging about speaking up and taking part. And she did it in a way that didn't make you feel singled out or uncomfortable. I actually didn't fully understand what she was doing until later on. She is part of the reason why I still love to read. I remember her smile and the belly laugh that made us all smile. I'll never forget her.

So sorry for the loss of your Mom, Shannon and Chris. I remember her being in the halls at Lower Lincoln School although I never ending up having her as a teacher by the time I got to Grade 6. She was a great friend to my Mom from their Lincoln days and still got together to share birthdays. I will never forget your Mom and I still hear her laugh and see her smile from over 30 years ago. She was a fighter. Thinking of you and your family.

Carol will forever be a huge part of my childhood memories. Every summer there were camping trips with laughter, games, and loose rules around snacks and bedtimes. I always thought of her as a driving force and, as a teacher myself, sometimes channeled my inner Carol.voice. She always made my mom laugh and right down to the last visit she said what she thought. Thinking of you all and sending love.

As part of Carol’s extended family, I am Mark’s aunt, he is my sister’s son, I am devastated by Carols passing…I met Carol and Brian when Mark and Shannon were married. We became kindred grandmothers (Mark had lost his mom during that time) to Brady and Luke and shared many good times and chats over the years.
Carol was very kind, outgoing and the most vibrant woman I ever met and I longed to spend more time with her.
My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to Brian, Shannon, Mark, Brady, Luke, Chris and his beautiful family, Carol’s lovely sisters and to all her dearest friends.

I was one of ‘those’ students in Carol’s grade 6 class in Lower Lincoln. She was a big reason why I went into education and am now a principal myself. Carol was a role model, mentor, cheerleader and caring individual who has forever left an impact on me. I will miss her dearly. She will always be my favorite teacher. Condolences to her entire family and may you all find peace in the many memories made ❤️
