Obituary of Gary Arnold Fleiger

It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of Gary Arnold Fleiger on March 29, 2023 at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born on November 15, 1959, he was the son of the later Arnold and Patricia (Durelle) Fleiger.

Gary will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, especially boating the river from Oromocto to Saint John or going for long drives. He admired his father and uncle for their successful boxing careers, which certainly helped nurture his love of fitness. His fitness and activity level were second to none, and he often expressed his belief that exercise could cure anything!

Fun loving and a jokester, Gary was known to spin a tall tale and have his friends and family believing all his crazy stories. His warped sense of humour complemented his huge, caring heart. His generosity and strength made him the protector of friend, family and even strangers. Even as a young man, he was known to invite homeless people into his family house for a meal. Gary brought a sense of security and safety that reassured all around him that they were protected.

Gary was so proud of his family. The last five years have been a delight getting to know his granddaughter, Kaylee. His eyes would light up whenever they were together, and he doted on her every chance he got.

Gary will be terribly missed by his daughter, April Gray; granddaughter Kaylee Gray; siblings, Michael, Paul (Patricia), and Rachel, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Oromocto Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary’s name to the Kidney Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
