I’m not sure if Ian’s wife will have an opportunity to review my comments or not. A lot of time has passed since his death. Iattended public and high school with Ian . We have not kept in touch over that soon to be 50 years since then. I farm the land where Ian grew up. Ian never sought the centre stage in school . He was quiet, attentive , and noticeably intelligent. He had a friendly smile and was on good terms with everyone. As a farmer, I haven’t strayed farm from home. When people return for reunions or get together invariably I will hear people wondering about Ian’s whereabouts. He was a person that everyone had an understated respect for. I’m sorry he is no longer here and pass along my condolences to his family as a friend from a different time.
With kind regards, John Underwood

I just found out about Ian's passing. I'm very sorry to find out that this has happened. At only 64 too. Too young! My condolences to his wife and daughter. It seems like only yesterday that I served with Ian at 403 Squadron. He was in the AF9000 cell, and I spent many hours with him there, reviewing the numerous changes to processes that he administered. He was very helpful to me in streamlining my submissions. I also recall attending the funeral of his Son, and will never forget the emphatic words he spoke to all of us "love your children, and tell them often". Later, I would see Ian at the local car shows. I noticed he hadn't been around for a while but had no idea this was the reason. Again, I am so sorry to see him gone now, and for your loss.

Time slipped by it seem so fast
As our own years began to add up
Though our minds still clearly saw
Events that are like just yesterday
Happy or Tragic it mattered not
We kept fresh over a coffee
Those moments in time
Now so many more words I wish I could say
Each night lately shed a silent tear,
As I speak to you and your family in prayer.
To let you know much you were respected,
And just how much we all cared.
Take our million teardrops,
Wrap them up together
Ask the wind to carry them,
To you in heaven above.
You were my trainer, my boss, my friend
My big brother in the end,
RIP Ian until we meet again.
My deepest sympathizes to Sarah , Debbie and your extended family

I am so sorry for your loss. Sarah is a dear friend and by extension her parents Debbie and Ian are like family to me. Ian, I will miss your quirky sense of humour and the support you offered over the years. I was so blessed to have you and Debbie attend my wedding a few years ago. You'll be greatly missed.
