Obituary of Frank Warren Dykeman

It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Warren Dykeman, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Frank was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on March 5, 1939, to Edward & Winnifred Dykeman (Chapman). He was the youngest of their three boys. Frank passed away peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by his son & daughter. Frank was predeceased by his first (ex) wife, Gail (Young), his brother Percy (Puddy) Dykeman, his parents Percy & Winnie Dykeman and two of his favourite pets, Brooks & Pepper. He is survived by his second wife Joy (Snowball), his children, Michael (Daniela) of Ottawa, Lynda (Joseph) of Saint John, Chris (Michelle) of Halifax NS, as well as his grandchildren Kahleah (Spencer), Kyle Nathan, Jacob Michael Cole, Michael & Megan, Michael & Morgan; brother Ernest Dykeman (Claire), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Frank grew up on Saint John's west side, where he met his first wife, Gail. A lover of basketball, he played point guard for Saint John Vocational. As well, he loved to draw and paint. He had his portrait painted by his then art teacher Fred Ross when they were both young artists. Frank left Saint John Vocational and joined the Canadian Navy, serving as a depth charge operator for four years. Following he joined the Bank of Montreal. After adopting their first child (Michael) in 1967, Frank relocated from Saint John to Newcastle with his first wife, Gail. Shortly after, they adopted their second child (Lynda), and the family spent the next twelve years on the Miramichi. Frank left the bank and took a position at Aircrew-Weyrock – later Northrup – where he became a personnel manager. Aside from raising his family, he enjoyed curling, fly fishing and golfing. Frank was adamant that it be mentioned herein that he actually had a hole-in-one on the 16th hole at the Miramichi Golf and country club. He loved dancing & having parties, tossing out the Disco steps in the living room. He could also be found at swimming meets, dance recitals, umpiring neighbourhood ball games and later, in the local arenas cheering on his stepson (Chris) and the JMH Tommies. For many years, he was everyone's Dad. Frank later relocated to Oromocto, where he and his second wife (Joy) owned and operated the Lincoln Pet Hotel. Frank was a lover of all animals. He had another great love, working on his house in Oromocto. To Frank, it wasn't always about the endgame but more about enjoying the journey – at times to his detriment. His wives would share stories about many a job that went unfinished, but oh, how he cherished the time spent getting there. It is also important to note his love for Nintendo & Super Mario, which may have been partially responsible for some of those unfinished jobs. The family of Frank would like to send sincere thanks to the staff of the Uptown Health Center and Nurse Practitioner Fiona Thornton. To the Doctors and Registered Nurses of the SJRH Cardiac Care Unit, whose care undoubtedly resulted in the extra time we had with him. Finally, to his caregiver Cindy Gillies in Oromocto, who made his last days at his home as comfortable as possible. Frank's smile and charm will undoubtedly be missed by all who have crossed his path in life. A visitation and celebration of life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 1 to 3 PM, at the Oromocto Funeral Home at 108 Winnebago St, Oromocto, NB.
